1. Backgoung of Today's discussion

1.1 There were former activities:

• SGML DTD for standards documents
  --> published as ISO/IEC TR 9573-11:1992 (1st ed.)

• ISO/IEC TR 9573-11 1st ed. was updated by ITSIG/SGML group
  --> "ITSIG exchange DTD"

1.2 ITSIG requested its XML project to develop XML DTD

for the interchange of standards documents in an XML environment, in 2000.

NOTE: XML environment:

• Inexpensive tools are available
• Project editors, TC/SC members as well as ISO/CS staffs can deal with XML tools.
• Therefore, style specification is required for them to review standards documents with a presentation style defined by ISO/IEC directives.

1.3 XML project developed:

• XML DTD (as well as SGML DTD)
• style specification by DSSSL and XSL

--> published ISO/IEC TR 9573-11:2004 (2nd ed.) in 2004-04

The basic structure of the XML DTD is conforming to the "ITSIG exchange DTD (SGML DTD)".
Style specification by DSSSL and XSL-FO are conforming to the ISO/IEC directives.
