As a rsult of my conversations with Mr. Tescher, I have asked Dr. Yushi
Komachi, the SC34/WG2 convenor, to make contact with Dr. Leonardo
Chiariglione, the SC29/WG11 convenor. My hope is that they can establish
some means for joint meetings of their groups and joint development of the
project.

SC34/WG2 convenor (Y. Komachi) and Mr. L. Chiariglione met in Kurihama, Jan. 11 2006, and discussed the CD 14496-22. With the suggestion of ITTF Geneva, they concluded that

The "Open Font Format" should be a dual-numbered standard:

Number;
ISO/IEC 14496-22
ISO/IEC 9541-4

Title;
Information technology
- Coding of audio-visual objects - Part 22: Open Font Format
- Font information interchange - Part 4: Open Font Format

Foreword;
Para 5 should be removed.
Para 6 should include the structure of 9541 as well as the structure of
14496.

Scope;
It should be modified.

In advance of the upcoming plenary session, the SC34 Chairman puts forth the following 
Resolution on behalf of the WG2 Convenor to satisfy the need to introduce a new part to 
an existing standard, as provided for in JTC 1 Directives Section 6.2.2.1. P-members are 
asked to submit any objections to this resolution in the two-week period ending 2006-03-06, 
or if in support of this resolution, to submit the names of any interested participants 
from their national body. 

BE IT RESOLVED, that the JTC 1/SC 34 Programme of Work be updated to include a subdivision 
of the existing ISO/IEC 9541 to introduce Part 4, titled "ISO/IEC 9541-4 Information 
Technology - Font Information Interchange - Open Font Format", developed as a dual-numbered 
document in conjunction with ISO/IEC 14496-22 being prepared by JTC 1/SC 29/ WG 11. The 
scope of this dual-numbered project will be the standardization of OpenType(R) format 
version 1.4 font format specification as a ISO/IEC standard.
