Report of ISO/IEC 10036 Registration

Reporting period: 28 March, 2011 - 28 June, 2012

RA database

Since March 2011, still we are in preparation to provide the AFII data on 10036ra.org. As reported in previous activity report, it is found that Microsoft Access 2007 can load the database created by original AFII, but it is unclear if we can extract the glyph image pictures included in the database automatically.

Kamimura is now transferring the process of database administration to Suzuki.

Other issues

Old Hanzi

In the discussion to standardize Old Hanzi (Oracle Bone, Bronze Inscriptions, Small Seal in Shuowen) of JTC1/SC2/WG2/IRG, the lack of character-glyph model was pointed. ISO/IEC 10036 had already resolved that the registration fee for public and non-profit purpose is reduced, Suzuki responded that ISO/IEC 10036 is willing to accept the Old Hanzi glyph registration if they are required for the glyph information interchange. ISO/IEC JTC1/SC2/WG2/IRG N1742 describes the issue.

The unstabilized glyph images in ISO/IEC 10646 standardization

In JTC1/SC2/WG2/IRG, there is a proposal from UTC to IRG members to register all glyphs to IVD/IVS that are submitted for the discussion (and not standardized). Yet IRG experts are not sure what the benefit the proposal expects, and the copyright issues before the font submission are also unclear. ISO/IEC JTC1/SC2/WG2/IRG N1788 is the proposal from UTC. If the unstabilizied glyph images in the discussion of JTC1 should be recorded, ISO/IEC 10036 would be the candidate of the storage of them.
